Fixing Challenging Words in Programming

We live in an ever-changing world. However, the importance of the art of programming remains unchanged.

A number of common programming words and concepts are especially challenging as programmers attempt simultaneously to be accurate, sensitive, and contemporary.

To ensure the enduring value of programming, I have undertaken the careful task of updating the problematic words. I am pleased to present you with what I can, in full confidence, call the world’s most meticulously researched, rigorously peer-reviewed, and faithfully accurate programming language guide.

1. Webshit

Ah, the webshits. They really are sons of bitches.

The term “webshit” is used to derogatorily refer to web developers. The term is not entirely wrong, as web programming is riddled with problems and idiosyncratic scripting languages, but it is still quite offensive.

When context permits, we suggest instead: “person afflicted with webshittery” or “person possessed by JavaScript.”

2. Master branch

The “master branch” contains the canonical copy of a codebase in version control software.
